Born in Somerset in the South-West of England clarinetist and vocalist Bernard Stanley Bilk, better known as Acker Bilk, was one of the greater post-war jazz musicians. Playing the clarinet on the Bristol jazz circuit in the early 50’s and moved to London in the end of the 50’s Bilk became part of the boom in the ‘Trad jazz’ in the U.K. In 1962 Bilk was U.K.’s best-selling artist with his instrumental megahit “Stranger On The Shore” which also reached the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in America. In 2002 Acker Bilk appeared on Van Morrison‘s “Down The Road” and later followed by “What’s Wrong With This Picture” and the 2012 album “Born To Sing: No Plan B”.
