Description
St. Louis, Missouri, born jazz guitarist and composer Grant Green was a severely underrated guitar player in his lifetime as critics called him “one of the great unsung heroes of the jazz guitar”. Green‘s first professional performance was as a member of a gospel music ensemble at the age of 13, then, via boogie-woogie and blues, he moved to jazz in the early 60’s and was discovered by sax-player/bandleader Lou Donaldon and made a large number of great records for the Blue Note Label. Green‘s primary influences were saxophonists, particularly Charlie Parker, and that influence gave Green his so recognizable sound. He is accompanied by a.o. Michael Brecker & Steve Kahn (Steely Dan‘s Aja & Gaucho) on this “funky 70’s soul-jazz” album.
