“Straight No Chaser” is the sixth studio album by Thelonious Monk and should not be confused with the original motion picture soundtrack to the 1988 film of the same name. “Straight No Chaser” is undeniably one of those classics and finds Monk in the good company of his long- time companions – Charlie Rouse Larry Gales and Ben Riley. The first six selections here in this sequence were originally issued in 1967 as the LP “Straight No Chaser”. “This Is My Story This Is My Song” was first issued on the compilation “Always Know”. Three of the originally-issued selections were edited before initial release presumably to conform to the time limitations of the long-play record format. On this CD the tracks are restored to full length and structure as originally recorded. “Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea” and “This Is My Story This Is My Song” are unaccompanied piano solos. For this CD reissue producer Orrin Keepnews discovered two complete previously unreleased performances. Here at last is the definitive and complete Straight No Chaser.
