Description
Charles Ives was a romantic composer with an important spiritual statement to make. His polyrhythms, “dissonance”, etc, were only parts of the even more adventurous techniques be used in getting closer to the specific streams of mind and soul be sought to communicate the soul of America itself. The Second Symphony was written by Charles Ives between 1897 and 1902. It consists of five movements and lasts approximately 40 minutes. The interesting part of this CD is the less often recorded Symphony 3. Ives‘ Third Symphony could be regarded as a transitional composition toward Ives‘ later more abstract and dissonant work.
