Two criminally underrated singers from the mid-sixties golden soul era as AllMusic describes this release from Bettye Lavette and Carol Fran. Lavette, for many best known for her performance at Barack Obama’s inauguration singing Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”, a duet with Jon Bon Jovi. The CD opens with the complete “Calla” recordings of Bettye Lavette. Eight songs starting with her masterpiece “Let Me Down Easy”. The second part holds the complete “Port” & “Roulette” recordings from Lafayette, Louisiana soul/swamp-blues singer Carol Fran, who once was as much underrated as Lavette. With this 2005 remastered recordings two dozen of lost classics were revealed.
