Al Kooper founded Blood, Sweat & Tears after the band leader from the band he was playing in, The Blues Project, rejected his idea of bringing in a horn section. Child Is Father to the Man is the 1968 debut album by Al Kooper‘s eight piece band Blood, Sweat & Tears with a young Randy Brecker on trumpet. The album was recorded in two weeks in December 1967 and the only album Al Kooper appeared on. AllMusic critic William Ruhlman wrote: This is one of the great albums of the eclectic post-Sgt. Pepper era of the late ’60s.
