Description

“Farther Along” was the 11th album by the American rock band The Byrds, released in November 1971 on Columbia Records. For the most part, the album was recorded and produced by The Byrds themselves in London, England, over the course of five work-intensive days in July 1971. It was quickly released as a reaction to the commercial failure of their previous album “Byrdmaniax” and as an attempt to stem the criticism that album was receiving in the music press. “Farther Along” with the tough rockin’ “Tiffany Queen” and the pensive “Bugler” are the late-period Byrds at the top of their game and “Bristol Steam Convention Blues” features some superb bluegrass picking from White. This is hardly the rousing conclusion to the Byrds story that some fans might have hoped for, but it’s a strong and well-crafted set from a band that inarguably gave it their all right up to the finish line.
