Mink Deville was one of the early house bands at CBGB’s during the rise of the New York City punk scene. ‘Return to Magenta’ continued in the vein of the first album ‘Cabretta’, with a mixture of rock, soul, blues, and Latin rhythms. With the looks of a real “Carribean Pirate”, DeVille knows the truth of a city street and the courage in a ghetto love song. And the harsh reality in his voice and phrasing is yesterday, today, and tomorrow — timeless in the same way that loneliness, no money, and troubles find each other and never quit for a minute. On ‘Easy Slider’, the band takes a trip to New Orleans for some Crescent City soul, featuring Dr. John on piano for an extra note of authenticity.
