Description

Blind Willie McTell (born William Samuel McTier) was a Piedmont blues and ragtime singer and guitarist. He played with a fluid, syncopated fingerstyle guitar technique, common among many exponents of Piedmont blues. Unlike his contemporaries, he came to use twelve-string guitars exclusively. McTell was also an adept slide guitarist, unusual among ragtime bluesmen. “Statesboro Blues” is a Piedmont blues song written by Blind Willie McTell, who recorded it in 1928. The title refers to the town of Statesboro, Georgia. The song in the version of the Allman Brothers Band was in 2008 ranked # 9 in the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time.
