Description

Morphine‘s instrumentation was unusual for a rock band: Mark Sandman‘s primary instrument was a two-string bass guitar, Dana Colley played primarily baritone saxophone and he sometimes played two saxes at once, à la Roland Kirk. Jerome Deupree, the band’s original drummer, quit due to health problems during the recording of the album and was replaced by Billy Conway. Dark, swinging and strangely happy underneath it all, ‘Cure For Pain’ is an album on which every track is great. Each track works together and contributes to a larger whole. Morphine was an unique band, and this album is one of the highlights of their prematurely cut short career.
